the "glubs"

So today when I dropped Savannah off at school I noticed all of her classmates on one end of the playground having their way with a huge snowball. They were kicking it, chiseling away at it, and having a grand time. I realized that I hadn't brought gloves for Savannah to wear and I told her that I didn't want her touching the snow if she didn't have gloves, or as my children call them, "glubs". Well, you should have seen her face. Her eyebrows were furrowed, her face distraught, and she looked at me with her big brown eyes as if to say, " But Mom! I won't have any fun if I'm just watching the other kids play with the snow!" Savannah has never been a good spectator. She always wants to be in the middle of the action. And then, a lightbulb went off and there was a gasp as she reached into the pocket of her backpack. "I have some glubs!" she exclaimed. Her eyes lit up and a big smile stretched across her face as she pulled the gloves out and began to put them on. Of course, this made me smile too.

Do you remember a time in your life when the difference between a good day and a bad one was whether or not you had a pair of "glubs"? Oh, to be five years old again.
