three's company
Yesterday while taking a picture of the nest, Mrs. ROBINson (who was perched high in the tree above) let out a warning call until I moved away when she swooped in and sat on her eggs. Today, she calmy watched me from the ground as if she knew that there was nothing to worry about. I'd like to think she knows who I am but that would lead me to my next point; I have turned into the "bird lady". Since discovering Mrs. ROBINson I have done enough research on American Robins that I now am familiar with their different calls, when they breed, how many "clutches" they have, have many ovaries they have (shocking, but they only have one), and who their predators are, among other things. I have built a fence made of chicken wire around the perimeter of the tree so she is not disturbed and I'm pretty sure if anything happened to her or her offspring I would cry. But don't worry, you will not see me on the steps of the State Capitol building singing, "Feed the Birds" from Mary Poppins anytime soon...although I certainly feel like her.
