Today we got a really nice surprise. Tom's parents came to our house to bring Benjamin his birthday present and they brought Grandmother Thackeray with them. Grandmother (as she likes to be called) holds a special place in my heart. When Tom was in Basic Training, waaaaaay back when, Grandmother and I wrote letters to each other while I was living in San Diego with my parents. She had spent her fair share of time away from her husband back when they were young and knew just what I needed to hear to help encourage me. Grandmother is also a lover of writing and flowers. Need I say more? She is an example of strength and quiet faith to me and I love her. I think one of my favorite parts about today's visit was when Benjamin went outside and started playing catch with her. Now, this woman is 93 years old and can still play catch!! That says something!
