variety vs. change

1. va·ri·e·ty/vəˈrīətē/Noun
1. The quality or state of being different or diverse; the absence of uniformity, sameness, or monotony.
1. change/CHānj/
Verb: Make or become different: "a proposal to change the law"; "beginning to change from green to gold".
Noun: The act or instance of making or becoming different.

I never knew that variety and change (although similar) could co-exist so happily in a person. See, I have never been a big fan of change. Change makes me feel scared, unsettled, and yucky inside. I like feeling comfortable and confident in my friendships, in my surroundings, in my expectations of how things are going to be. I love being able to go to the grocery store and recognize the employees there. I love driving home at night and having that peaceful feeling that comes from driving on the familiar roads that lead me home. I love being able to count on people and the little things that never seem to change.

I do however, LOVE variety. I love spontaneity. Routines drive me nuts for the most part. I like waking up not knowing what the day has in store for me. To be free to create my own schedule. I love spur of the moment trips to a store, and last minute vacations. I love surprising people, and being surprised. Variety really is the spice of life.
