Valentines Day 2011

Remember when Valentine's Day was all about the love of your life, or the stark absence of the love of your life, or as my brother likes to say that Valentine's day is just a made up holiday so people can make more money?

Well, this year for some reason my focus shifted from celebrating the love of my life, to celebrating the loves in my life. I felt like this year I was going to express my love to Tom and our kids by making their favorite foods and celebrating together over a serene, candlelit meal. Not to say that this didn't happen, but it did turn out a little differently than I had envisioned. I volunteered to be the ballet carpool Mom that day so the other moms could carry out their Valentine's plans with a little less stress. I made it home just in time to throw some pasta on the stove, feed Jacob so he wasn't screaming throughout our meal and sprinkle some chocolates on every one's plates. Savannah ended up falling asleep so we had a Valentine's celebration with just Tom, Benjamin, and me.

Right before we sat down for dinner, Tom sent me on a treasure hunt using clever poems as clues (this has been a tradition for several years). I think he was a little disappointed because in the middle of each clue I would dash to the kitchen to tend to dinner. Not the most romantic way to receive a thoughtful gift like that, but I was grateful for the gesture.

So, although is didn't turn out perfectly I was happy that I was able to spend the big L.O.V.E. day with the people I love the most.
